Since beginning my high school volleyball career, I’ve found that communicating loudly and efficiently on the court is a concept I view very highly. Communication breeds understanding amongst teammates, whether that is who will get the next ball or even just as an attempt to resolve conflict. I find it is incredibly important to create a strong bond between every person on a team; that is was creates a strong team.
I understand that volleyball is a game of mistakes and most importantly a game of the mind, and I’ve learned throughout the years that it is best to learn from a mistake, brush it off, and move on to the next point. There is an importance in knowing how to stay out of your own head and keep going toward success.
I have had the opportunity to play as libero for two years of high school so far and it has been an absolute joy. Volleyball has taught me so much more about myself and helped me to improve my confidence in ways I never expected. I’ve learned how to move on from errors; I’ve learned the power of positive encouragement. I strive to encourage others to the best of my ability whether we’re dominating the court or fighting to get our serve back. I have hopes that I will find a college team that will improve both my skills as a player and my character as a person.
