Hello, my name is Teagan Sychterz and I am currently a sophomore attending Triton High School. Growing up one of eight children, I know that working hard and making sacrifices to not only better myself but the people around me will always pay off. I live in a very rural area where big opportunities are hard to come by, but I know once I’ve got my mindset on something I will do everything in my control to make those dreams my reality. This dream for me is to play volleyball at a DI, DII, or DIII school. Being on the court or in the sand is an enormous part of my life and it has continued to shape me into the diligent and dedicated person I am today. I am a very coachable player that wants to continually be pushed to become the best team player out there and to also become the hardest working person in the room. I not only scuff up my knee pads during school and club ball but I’m also digging balls in the sand year-round working hard to improve my playing ability and to mentally challenge myself to be the best leader I can be on and off the sand or hardwoods. I want to show my team that volleyball isn’t just a “me” sport, it’s a “team” sport. Nothing has ever been handed to me, and if I must I will: fight for the last dinner roll at the table or make captain as the youngest player on the varsity team. Me, being a big sister of five and a little sister of two has shown me that things get tough but you have to find a solution and overcome your challenges. With a 20 year age gap between my oldest to youngest siblings, I know that I must adjust to others and help them to the best of their ability whether it be me showing them how to cook dinner, or even helping my older brother with his homework, no matter what I am the first they come running to and help save the day. Growing up around small kids has helped me develop my love for working with children. I find it heartwarming to watch them learn and grow, that is why I have decided that I want to base my studies off of helping children and major in either Pediatric Physical Therapy, Recreational Therapy, or Social Work. Volleyball is my heart, but I know that I am a student-athlete, or in other words a student before an athlete. I take my education very seriously as shown by my drive to maintain a 4.375 GPA and I always remind myself that it’s brains before games.
