My name is Melissa Benkowitz and I have been playing volleyball since the 5th grade. I am a 5’10" senior from North Carolina, where I attend Cedar Ridge High School. I have a 4.13 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), and am pursuing an IB diploma.
I began my volleyball career as a Libero, After a growth spurt a couple of years ago, I transitioned to OH (six rotations) which I really enjoy. My strengths are my ball control, versatility, volleyball IQ and the even-keeled temperament I consistently bring to the court. I also played on club sand volleyball for four years which helped me round out my game.
I have played on my high school varsity team all four years, and in my Sophomore year, earned all-conference, all-region, and all-state honors as Libero. This past season, I earned all-conference honors as a pin. We won the State Championship my Junior year, and we finished in the State Semifinals this year. My club team, Chapel Hill Area Volleyball Club, is also very competitive nationally. Last year, we finished around the top 30 in the country.
I am hoping to attend university with a strong academic reputation, competitive volleyball program and where I can make an immediate impact on the team.
