Personal Statement

My name is Luke Adams. I am 15 years old, 6’4”, 190 pound 3rd/OF/RHP.  We just moved to Chapel Hill where I attend Carrboro High School. I play for Top Tier Americans in Chicago for the last 6 years & then I played fall ball for Five Star Nationals this Fall in NC. I have a 4.0 GPA.

My height has worked to my advantage from an early age and I excelled equally at football, basketball and baseball. Most years I played up a grade or a weight class due to my size. I loved the challenge of playing with the older kids and I was always pushing myself to be the best on every team I played. One of my great accomplishments was winning the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick for the Chicago Bears for 6 straight years & 3 of those years going on to win the National Championship in my age group. Sadly, the NFL discontinued the program in the summer of 2017. By this time, I knew that baseball was the sport I wanted to pursue in college, so as I entered high school I was playing just 2 sports.

On all baseball teams, I have been a true utility player. 3rd base, OF, RHP and SS have been my main positions for most of my years.  My coaches want me in the line-up because I have a strong bat, so if I need to come out at 3rd to let someone else get time, I move to the outfield and even 1st base lately. The only position I would not typically be prepared to play is catcher; although I did catch a full game each of past 4 years when our catcher was injured or exhausted. I usually bat in the first three spots of the batting order. As much of a compliment it is for me to bat 4th, I give most teams the opportunity to score more when they keep me in the top three spots as I love aggressively stealing bases.

My teammates like me because I’m the life of the dugout. Whether it’s a group I’ve known forever or Team USA - Midwest where we all just meet each year in NC, I am the one leading the chants and keeping the energy high. I am a leader on the field as well and I’m also the person the guys come to when they need advice. Coaches want me on their team and teachers want me in their class because I push myself to be the best, constantly trying to improve my technique or practice a new skill. I’m a serious student and I lead my team by example by getting straights As, volunteering, going on annual mission trips and being involved in my community.

I was selected to play for the NTIS Team USA Great Lakes for the last 4 years, and was invited to Perfect Game final tournament where I had a chance to play with some of the best kids in the county. My freshman team at Hinsdale Central ended the season undefeated. I was moved to the Sophomore team half way through the year and pitched 6 innings in the final game of the season against the top team in our conference – left the game with a 2-1 lead.

In my free time I love to snowboard and I’ve taken my ping pong game to the next level. I have won awards in many chess tournaments over the years and can’t pass up a game of Rummikub. I’m the ultimate competitor and my enthusiasm is contagious.  Baseball is my passion and I'm excited to find a team where I can take my skills to the next level.

  • It was a pleasure to have met Luke and have had a chance to coach him last week at the USA Baseball East Coast 14u Championships. There is a lot that Luke does correctly and very well. I look forward to following Luke as he progresses as a ballplayer and hope we cross paths again soon. Please let him know that he is a very good baseball player and a great person and I wish him my best as he works hard on the path to achieve his goals. Do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can ever be of help with. Sincerely, Tom LoSauro Head Baseball Coach Lyman HS, Orlando, FL It was as pleasure to have Luke with us last week! He has a ton of upside and will be an outstanding player moving forward. As with all 14 year old players I would emphasize working on arm strength, foot speed, and core strength as these areas transfer to all areas of the game. Luke has terrific hand/eye at the plate and some good pop in his swing, so refining his load with his hands a little higher will help create better control of the bat through the hitting zone. -- Darrell Don, CAA Director of Athletics Calvary Christian High School 110 N.
