As a sophomore JV/varsity swing player last year, and a varsity starter in my junior year, winning two state championships has been a big highlight of my high school football career so far. This year, our varsity team had to overcome many obstacles as we started the season 2-2. But the guidance of our coaches and our team’s strong motivation to win propelled us to go 6-0 from that point on to win the Division 1 state championship.
The varsity experience has allowed me to grow in several areas, not only in the physical aspect, but also teaching me about patience, perseverance, and work ethic. From voluntary 6:00 am workouts throughout the offseason, to the weeks of summer conditioning, football has made me a much better athlete and a self-motivated man. With balancing both football and academics, being a student-athlete will ultimately prepare me for a successful future. Going into my senior year, I am focused on being a leader for the varsity team and setting a standard of excellence and execution on every snap. I would bring this same approach as a college player.
As for academic goals, I plan to pursue a business/economics major in college, and potentially a minor in world religions, building on subjects I have most enjoyed in high school. I look forward to continuing to work hard as a student-athlete and being a strong asset to my team.
