“I am an individual free to create my own path and blaze a trail.”
My name is Gideon Dey. I am a hard working, as well as eager 17 year old student currently enrolled at Aviation High School in Queens New York.
Academics has never been something that I've ever taken lightly. My current gpa is a 4.0, and since elementary I've taken school with all seriousness because of the impact it will have on my future. In middle school, I was a part of the National Junior Honor Society for two years straight, maintaining 90s and above in each of my classes. My middle school honor classes coached me in a way that made me understand the significance of my education, at a younger age. Allowing me to take regents exams and passing while still being an 8th grader, which gave me a boost in highschool academically, and those grades have been maintained allowing me to stay on a steady path.
I understand that your university does not only look into a person's academics, because just having a smart student isn't all that's going to be significant. They want a well rounded individual who also has a part of themselves dedicated to extracurriculars, and who will represent their school appropriately. I myself have strived to be that well rounded student. I participate in sports like basketball in my community with tournaments, to give back to those in my neighborhood, and I enjoy doing so because basketball has always been a deep passion of mine since I was a kid. Debate has also been a strong interest of mine because of how hard it pushes me. I first started sophomore year, and I've learned a lot and grew with each debate I've done. My very first time landed me in third place, it was new to me and I was nervous but still surprised and happy to even place. Funny enough with each debate that place has only gone up. My second debate I got 2nd place, and with my last debate I won becoming the Legal Outreach Constitutional Law Debate March 2019 Winner. Doing debate has taught me that as long as you're fully dedicated to something you will always flourish in any endeavor, even something new that you've never experienced before.
