Personal Statement

I am currently going into the grade 12 year in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.  I have aspirations to play for the Canadian National Team and I know that my chances of doing so will be greatly increased by playing in the United States.

This has been a very tough year with the lockdown and our club season was going very well when everything was cancelled.  I think I had a real chance of making the Canadian Youth Team this year despite being the younger of the U18 ages.  I had a great tournament with Team Ontario at the Florida International Water Polo Tournament which we won.  My report from my coaches put me at 7 of the 12 skills being at the Superior (National) Level, the other 5  were at the RDC (Elite) level.  Please ask for this report, I will gladly forward it to you.

I believe in not only increasing my own skills but also those of my teammates and I truly believe that I have always played unselfishly and tried to make those around me better with my actions.  I work and train hard and strive to challenge myself which the NCAA will most definitely do. I think this is one of the things that have always set me apart from others;  that I am always willing to push myself the extra mile, showing leadership by example as opposed to being a vocal leader.

I very much am interested in pursuing an education though I am still exploring different career paths.  I am interested in working in health care, perhaps as a nurse, or therapist; working with patients one on one.  Or even studying insects and plants.

Thank you.

Erin Van Rooyen
